Body

Roy Glenn Odom, Sr. of Gravelhill, was born November 22, 1947, in Lufkin. On May 17, 2024, his spirit left his body, went to the rainbow bridge where he took the reins of his TWH stallion, Shades By Tullos. Followed by his boxer dog, Duncan, they did a head shaking running walk to the pearly gates. Roy started first grade at Beech Grove School in Curtis. There he got his first whipping from Mrs. Rice when he told her she was not his momma and could not tell him what to do. He attended seven different schools in second grade. His daddy worked pipeline. He was in and out of Beech Grove until 1963 when they moved back to Jasper. He graduated Jasper High School in 1966. He worked on Toledo and Livingston Dams as they were being built.

In 1970, he moved to Houston, beginning his long career with Link Belt, Lima and American Cranes. He was one of, if not the best, parts men on Link Belt and American Cranes. He retired from IP Cranes in St. Paul, Minnesota as manager of their southern warehouse.

He was a top-notch shade tree mechanic. He built a few barns for Althea and he loved to bass fish. He was a member of Needville Baptist Church in Jasper and he was a good, kindhearted man.

He is survived by his much-loved boxer dog, Abby Gail Odom; his wife of almost 57 years, Althea Chambers Odom; sons, Glenn Odom of Gravelhill and Brian Odom of Nacogdoches; sister-in-law, Suzan Odom of Crystal Beach; cousin, Teresia Driver of Pollock; and granddaughters, Sydney Odom and Ryleigh Odom of San Antonio.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy De'Mandie Bryan Odom; and brother, W. K. (Buddy) Odom.

Thank you to Tiffany Campbell Trojanowski and Jenny Gray with Olive Branch/Heart to Heart Hospice for the care they gave him. Also, to Tony Fuller and others that helped him take his final trip from home.

Please make any remembrance of him to Gravel Hill Cemetery Association, P. O. Box 514, Hemphill, Texas 75948.
