Raymond Lofton Jr., 59, of Buna passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024.

Born April 17, 1965, in San Augustine County, to parents Lillian (Von Heuvel) and Raymond Lofton Sr., he grew up in Broaddus. Following his graduation from Broaddus High School in 1983, he served his country in the U.S. Army and received an associate’s degree from Angelina College.

Raymond retired from an outstanding law enforcement career with over 30 years of service. He began his career with San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office and served with several other police and sheriff’s departments throughout the state, including a tenure as police chief for the Pineland Police Department. He served as an officer abroad in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Bosnia. Raymond had also worked in plant security in Southeast Texas prior to his retirement.

His survivors include his wife, Alicia Lawson Lofton of Buna; children, Charlie Simon of Huntsville, Christina Herrera and her husband Aaron of Grapeland, Ashlyn Helm and her husband Garrett of Buna, and Matthew Crane of Buna; grandchildren, Rae Herrera and Dominic Herrera, both of Grapeland, Parker Helm of Buna, and Sylvie Simon of Huntsville; his sisters, Betty Cox and her husband, Elton of Nacogdoches and Bonnie Howard of Huntington; brother-in-law, Tom Maddox of Pineland; and mother-in-law, Mary Hughes and her husband Carl of Buna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lillian Lofton; and a sister, Barbara Maddox. Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, October 25, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, San Augustine.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 26, at Trinity Baptist Church, Broaddus. Interment will follow at Broaddus Cemetery.
