Mary Virginia Butler
Mary Virginia Butler, passed away on June 7, 2025, at the age of 86 in Jasper. Born on November 18, 1938, in the Spring Hill Community of Hemphill. Virginia was a cherished figure in her community and beloved by many. A native of Sabine County, she spent many years in Channelview, before returning to live in Brookeland for the past 23 years. Virginia dedicated many years to her career as a hairdresser, a profession she adored for its creative expression. Her love for hairstyling was only matched by her passion for gardening, arts and crafts, and oil painting, hobbies that brought color and joy not only to her life but also to those around her.
A strong Christian lady, Virginia was known for her unwavering faith and the comfort she drew from believing that the Lord was always at her side holding her hand. She was affectionately known as everyone's 'Memaw,' a testament to her role as the matriarch who placed her children, grandchildren and all their friends at the center of her world. Virginia's generosity and kindness extended beyond her family, touching the lives of everyone she met. She would do anything for anybody that she could.
Virginia is survived by her sons, Bruce Ferrell of Missouri, Tommy Ferrell of Fairmount Community, and David Ferrell of Arkansas; sisters, Linda Kelly and Terry Stewart Gandy; grandchildren, Daniel Ferrell, Linsey Adams, Jessica Ferrell Stephens, Amanda Hollingsworth, Kristen McGar, Kara Waugh, Beau Waugh, Landon Ferrell, Emalyn Ferrell, and Camyron Ferrell; along with numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Jackie Ferrell and Danny Ferrell, and daughter, Katina Waugh.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.
A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Spring Hill Cemetery, officiated by Bro. Floyd Wright.
In line with Virginia's love of bright colors, attendees are requested not to wear black to her funeral.
Serving as pallbearers are Beau Waugh, Nate Letney, Efo Blair, Junior Flores, David Ferrell and Kayden Guillory. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Waugh and Ray Stewart. Memories and condolences may be shared at starrfuneralhome. com.
