Mary Joy Bobbitt passed away July 13, 2026, in Lufkin, at the age of 94. She was born April 20, 1932, in San Augustine County, to the late Alfonzo Iza 'Fonzie' and Mary Esper Robbins. Mary moved to Dallas, in 1943 at the age of 11. She graduated from Forest Avenue High School and attended North Texas State University and Dallas College of SMU. She worked as a legal secretary until retiring and she then moved to Nacogdoches in 2010 to be closer to family.

Mary was of the Presbyterian faith but also attended the Methodist Church when moving to Nacogdoches. She was a member of the Stone Fort Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas in Nacogdoches. She was also a member of the Nacogdoches Newcomers Club for many years.

Mary loved to travel and had been to many European countries throughout her life. She loved to play 42 and Mexican Train.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant sister, Elmer Bobbitt and sister, Velma Morris Sloan; infant brother, Joseph Bobbitt and brothers, Alfred, Prentice, Kenneth and Billy Ray Bobbitt.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Sue Bobbitt of Pineland and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street in Hemphill, Texas with Bro. Don Lofton officiating.

Burial followed services in Bobbitt Family Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Mike Bobbitt, Derek Bobbitt, Rodney Cordray, Scott Cordray, Brayden Morris, Joush Morris, Sam Morris and Ray Morris. Honorary pallbearer is Weldon Elliott.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Lottie Temple Memory Unit at Pinecrest Retirement Center in Lufkin for the love and care they provided to Mary while residing there. A special thank you to her nephews, Ray Morris and Derek Bobbitt and niece, Janice Cordray, for the love and care they provided her as she lost her independence.
