Martha Paunee Dickerson
Martha Paunee Dickerson, 83, of Milam, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, after an illness at Baylor CHI St. Luke's Hospital in Lufkin.
She was born Sept. 17, 1938, in San Augustine to William "Bill" Lacy and Rosie Davis Lacy. She was a member of the Broaddus Class of 1958 and she worked for many years as head of housekeeping for Sabine County Hospital. She was the oldest member attending Bragg's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Sabine County. She enjoyed going places with her friend, Georgia, and working puzzles.
She is survived by two sons, Micheal Dickerson of Milam and Mark Dickerson and wife, Vickie, of Vidor; brother, W. D. Lacy of Norwood Community; sister, Sybil Lacy Hutto of Doucette; grandsons, Scott Simpson and wife, Heidi, of Pasadena and Cory Simpson and wife, Loni, of Walker, LA; four great-grandchildren, Gunnar, Hannah "JoBob Marie", Vador, and Hazel Simpson; friend, Georgia Brown of Hemphill; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Maurice Dickerson; son, Mervin Dickerson; great-grandson, Hunter Simpson; her parents, "William" Bill and Rosie Lacy; brothers, George Lacy and Jack Lacy; sisters, Johnnie Lacy May, Jane Lacy Crouch, Bertie Lacy McBride and Jean Lacy Clamon,
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 16, in Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, with Bro. Wade Bryan and Bro. Cliff Durham officiating.
Burial was held at New Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are James Henderson, Jeffery Lacy, Cory Simpson, Scott Simpson, Gunnar Simpson and Woody Dorsey. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Sullivan, Myron Lacy, and Jimmy Henderson.
