Johnnie Dale Richey
Johnnie Dale Richey passed away on June 9, 2025, at the age of 69 in Lufkin. Born on August 3, 1955, in Victoria, to Johnnie Casper Richey and Connie Mae Chant Richey, Johnnie lived a life marked by varied interests and deep family connections. A jack-of-all-trades, Johnnie had worked in several jobs that held with his personal interests including the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT). An avid enthusiast of firearms, Johnnie was an active member of both the National Rifle Association and the Black Powder Rifle Association. His passion for guns was not just a hobby but a significant part of his identity, deeply ingrained in his daily life.
Johnnie spent his final months in Hemphill, having previously lived in various towns, with Littlefield being his most recent residence before moving to Hemphill. His life was enriched by his close-knit family and his involvement in communities that shared his interests.
He is survived by his son, Johathan Richey of Farwell; daughter, Tasha Spurrell and her husband, Steve, of Sudan; brother, John Raymond Richey of Sugar Land; sisters, Sherri Jones and her husband, Steve Burch, of Hemphill, and Colinda Meza and her husband, Frank, of Austin. Johnnie was also a cherished grandfather to Kolby, Gaige, Aralynn, Kennedi, and Landri. His family remembers him as a loving and dedicated figure who left an indelible mark on their lives.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Connie Richey, and his daughter, Deanna Richey.
Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, Texas, is assisting the family with cremation arrangements. Johnnie's life and contributions will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
