James 'Joe' Wendell McNaughten, age 87, of Milam, passed away on June 3, 2024, in at Legacies Nursing and Rehab, Hemphill. He was born on September 23, 1936, in Milam, to Benton and Lydia Buna Gray Mc Naughten. Joe served in the Army during the Korean War and was a dedicated Maintenance Superintendent at Temple-Inland for 42 years. Joe was a longtime member of the Sexton Masonic Lodge and worshipped at Bethany Baptist Church in Milam where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on things in his spare time.

He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Montez Mc-Naughten, and leaves behind a legacy through his daughters Konnie Kay Long and husband, Randy, of Brookeland, Mary Ann Oliver and husband, Craig, of Pataskala, Ohio, Lydia Darlene Turner of Jasper, and Stacie Annette McNaughten of Pearland; step-son, Lee Edward Waller (Rusty) and wife, Sharon, of San Antonio; step-daughters, Karen Jean Johnson and husband, Glenn, of Lufkin and Kimberly Ann Elliott of Nacogdoches; sisters, Mary Joyce O'Riley of Silsbee, Shirley Parks of San Antonio, Helen Foreman of Marshall and Betty Turley of Longview; 17 beloved grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benton and Lydia McNaughten; granddaughter, Leslie Kay Brown; grandson, Timothy Joe Turner; stepdaughter, Mary Kathleen Goodwin; and brother, Benny Lewis McNaughten.

Joe will be remembered at visitation on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Bro. Mike Tieman and Bro. Floyd Wright.

Burial will take place at Bethany Memorial Gardens in Milam, Texas.
