James Lee Patin
James Lee 'Butch' Patin, 77, of Port Arthur, passed away on June 5, 2026, in Hemphill. Born on February 20, 1949, in Port Arthur, to James Lee Patin, Sr. and Florence Aline Hackney Patin, Butch spent his formative years in the area, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School.
Following high school, Butch served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was recognized for his bravery and service with several awards including a Purple
Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and Campaign Medal. After his military service, he returned to civilian life and embarked on a successful career in outside sales at Drago Hardware before becoming a skilled welder.
Butch was an active member of the In Country Vietnam Motorcycle Club, where he was affectionately known as 'Lightnin'.' He had a deep passion for the outdoors, particularly duck hunting and fishing, and he also enjoyed collecting and shooting guns.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Seegers and her husband, Jeff, of Hemphill; his son, Jeremy Patin and his wife, Rebekah, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Kaleigh Seegers and Joseph Patin; great-grandchildren, Emberly and Ethan, with Branson on the way. He also leaves behind his best friends, Randy Foreman of Groves and Dan 'Lobo' Cothran of Groesbeck. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, James and Aline Patin; his wife, Carol Patin; and his sister, Judy Patin.
Details regarding memorial services will be announced at a later date. Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, Texas, is handling the arrangements. Butch's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his courage in service, and his love for his friends and hobbies. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
