Gilbert Houston Phillips, 64, of Vidor, passed away on May 20, 2026. Born on October 24, 1961, in Hemphill, Gilbert was a cherished member of his community and a proud veteran of the United States Navy.

After graduating from Hemphill High School in 1980, Gilbert enlisted in the Navy, where he discovered his passion for boxing. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a pipefitter in the petroleum industry. A firm believer in physical fitness, Gilbert dedicated much of his time to working out, running, and weightlifting. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing during visits to Hemphill and cherished moments spent working alongside his brother, Joe and taking care of his grandchildren.

Gilbert's family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his wife, Amanda Phillips of Vidor; sons, Jarid Anthony Phillips and Tylor Kole Phillips, both of Vidor; brothers, George Phillips, Joseph Harris and wife, Lisa, and Ray Don Phillips, all of Hemphill and Ivy Lee Phillips of Vidor; and his grandchildren, Kaitlin Lanae, Ayden Tristin, Kaleiah Oceana, Aaron Nethaniah, Alijah Houston, Alarik Clinton, and Brandon Clark.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Catherine McDaniel; his first wife, Gayla Phillips; and his brother, Jason Harris.

Graveside services for Gilbert will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Myrtle Springs Cemetery, with Bro. Charles Moody officiating. The services are under the direction of Starr Funeral Home, located in Hemphill, Texas.

Gilbert's legacy of love, strength, and resilience will be forever cherished by those who knew him.
