Eugene Earl Childress, Jr., 56, of Rosevine, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at his residence.

Eugene was born on May 14, 1968, in Jasper, to Eugene Earl Childress, Sr., and Joyce Sue Matthews Childress. A lifelong resident of Sabine County, he worked for many years as an auto mechanic, serving his community with skill and dedication. Beyond his work, Eugene had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and collecting guns, as well as spending time mud hogging and riding around. Known for his playful nature, he delighted in picking on his family and friends—especially his grandchildren, whom he cherished dearly.

Eugene is survived by his daughters, Briana Mitchell and husband, Matt, of Pineland and Kristal Elliott and husband, Shawn, of Yellowpine; brothers, Hubert Letney and wife, Carolyn, of Jasper, Don Letney of Lufkin, and Michael Childress of Rosevine; sister, Tammy Childress of Rosevine; wife who never left, Brina Childress; and his beloved grandchildren: Jaxon Mitchell, Aidon Mitchell, Karmyn Mitchell, Clara Mitchell, Tagen Elliott, Easton Elliott, Ellis Elliott, and Ean Elliott.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2025, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Floyd Wright officiating.

Burial will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery with Jaxon Mitchell, Aidon Mitchell, Cody Childress, Michael Childress, Brad Easley, and Hubert Letney serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Don Letney, Tagen Elliott, and Chance Childress.
