Betty Ann McGown
Betty Ann McGown (née White), aged 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024, in Lufkin. Born on April 19, 1941, in Hemphill, to Rex and Atrell Wright White, Betty lived a life marked by devotion to her family and community. A lifelong homemaker, Betty cherished her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She dedicated many years to nurturing her family, instilling values of love and togetherness. Betty was a beloved member of the Pine Park United Pentecostal Church, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Leader, deeply influencing many young lives with her faith and wisdom.
Betty's hobbies included playing dominoes, tic tac toe, and she had a special passion for canning, making relishes and jellies, as well as raising chickens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rex and Atrell White; her husband, Edward 'Pap' McGown; her brothers, Rex 'Dink' White, Billy Joe White, Fred White, and Charlie White; and her sister, Frances Denby.
Betty is survived by her loving sons, Shane McGown and his wife Lisa of San Augustine, and Todd McGown and his wife Angie of Lufkin; sisters, Mary Lou Adams of Conroe, Carolyn Erwin and her husband Roy of Huntington, and Jane Hill and her husband Ralph of Hemphill; grandchildren, Megan De-Woody and her husband Dakota, Taylor McGown, Hallee Spell and her husband Zach, and Mason McGown; great-grandchildren, Zaiden Spell and Anakin Spell; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 31, Pine Park United Pentecostal Church, officiated by Bro. Rex White and Bro. Glenn Morton.
Burial followed at Meador Cemetery in Milam, Texas. Pallbearers include Sean Morgan, Frank White, Zach Spell, Dakota DeWoody, Jimmy Hanks, Trent Hanks, Travis Hanks, and Mason McGown.
