Kenneth Walter Horn
Kenneth Walter Horn, known to friends and family as Ken, passed away on August 31, 2026, at the age of 89, in Hemphill. Born on August 10, 1937, in Sabine County, to Cleo Clyde Horn and Wilma Lorraine Dorsey Horn, Ken was a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man.
Ken proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force before embarking on a successful career as a honey producer. He was the founder of Southern Gold Honey Company, which gained international recognition for its quality products. Ken was not only a respected businessman but also a dedicated servant of the St. Pius I Catholic Church in Hemphill, where he held the position of deacon for many years.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his sons, Wade Horn and Clay Horn with his wife Cindy; sisters, Deloris Horn Goza and Joan Horn Abelman; grandsons, Dallas Berthiaume, Paul Horn, Chris Horn, Ian Horn, and Chris Mitchell; granddaughter, Christle Crawford; along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Ken was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gretchen Scholzchen Horn, and his parents, C.C. and Wilma.
The community will honor Ken's life and legacy with a series of services. A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, located at 510 Starr Street in Hemphill, Texas.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at St. Pius I Catholic Church, 309 Starr Street in Hemphill, under the direction of Starr Funeral Home.
Following the mass, burial services will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery, 2290 Pine Street in Beaumont, Texas.
Ken's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his faith, and his community. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever.
