Thomas Dell Black, 76, passed away on August 10, 2026, in Tyler. Born on November 29, 1949, in Gilmer, to Crawford Black and Avis Mae Brooks Black, Thomas was a cherished member of the Hemphill community where he spent his entire life. Thomas graduated from Hemphill High School in 1967 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. Following his education, he served honorably in the United States Navy before embarking on a rewarding career with the Texas State Highway Department, where he dedicated over 30 years of service until his retirement.

Known for his devotion as a husband and his skill as an avid pool player, Thomas's presence enriched the lives of those around him. He is survived by his daughter, Misty Chrisley Black of Pembrook, VA; stepson, Don Fults of Dallas; stepdaughter, Rene Fults of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, James Hughlock, Elaina Chrisley, Raymond Chrisley, Garry Samford, Jonathan Samford, and Thomas Ramsey; and great-grandchildren, Dylan Hughlock, Kamey Holland, and Lexi Ramsey. Thomas was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy Black, and his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his home at 1108 Cassidy Drive in Hemphill, Texas, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Cremation arrangements were handled by Starr Funeral Home of Hemphill.
