Michael John Murphy, born on March 10, 1953, in Houston, to Everett John Murphy and Emma Lee Richard Murphy, passed away at the age of 73 on May 16, 2026, in Broaddus. Michael spent the last 30 years of his life in Broaddus,, and was a cherished member of the Bethel Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Pineland.

He dedicated many years to his career as a machinist millwright, working for Esco Petroleum, Inc., and for NASA. Michael had a passion for carpentry and gardening, hobbies that he pursued with great enthusiasm. His love for his wife, Carolan Murphy, with whom he shared 47 wonderful years, was profound. Together, they enjoyed the simple pleasure of each other's company, building a life filled with love and mutual respect.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Carolan Murphy of Broaddus; sons, Michael Kelly and his wife, Angelica, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Mitchell Murphy of Houston; granddaughter, Chelsea Stanford and her husband, Robert, of Crocket; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Emma Murphy; son, Paul Murphy; and sister, Obita Murphy.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street in Hemphill, Texas. The service will be officiated by Bro. Joe Caraway. Michael's life and legacy will be honored and remembered by his family, friends, and community.
