Lanora McDonald, aged 90, passed away on April 5, 2026, in Hemphill. Born on January 31, 1936, in Crockett, to Charles Edward Grimes and Mildred Birdette Wilson Grimes. Lanora was a dedicated individual known for her entrepreneurial spirit and loving nature. Throughout her life, Lanora embarked on numerous ventures, showcasing her business sense and exceptional work ethic. She owned and operated various businesses, including a Dairy Queen in Newton and Dinnertime Casseroles in Hemphill. Additionally, she served her community as a bail bondsman. Despite her busy career, Lanora's favorite and most cherished role was being a mother.

Lanora was a member of the San Augustine County Cowboy Church, where she found spiritual solace and community. She was well known for her love of cooking; providing meals to family and friends brought her great joy.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 45 years, Elmer Earl (EE) McDonald; her sons, Ronnie Jordan and wife, Mary, of Grapeland, Terry Jordan and wife, Gail, also of Grapeland and Mark McDonald of Willis; her daughters, Carrie Vincent and husband, Bubba, of Newton, Sherri Foster and husband, Kenon, of Hemphill, Jennifer Moody and husband, Chad, also of Hemphill and Sabrina McDonald of Nacogdoches; her sister, Ardith Grimes Mosley of Grapeland; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lanora was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Mildred Grimes; daughter, Carla Maxwell; and siblings, Charles Grimes, J.N. Grimes, Delores Grimes Gregory, Dorlene Grimes Cromeens, and Arnold Grimes.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street in Hemphill.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Starr Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Reggie Gregory officiating.

Burial will follow at Lonestar Cemetery in Pineland, where her grandsons will have the honor of serving as pallbearers.
