Hazel Steptoe, 93, of San Augustine, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Stone Creek Village Care Center.

She was born July 28, 1928, in Buna, to parents Laura (Parker) Sheard and George Sheard. She was a longtime resident of San Augustine and was a dedicated wife and mother to her family. In addition to serving and supporting her family, she was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Her survivors include her daughter, Patsy Joe Tipps of Minden; sons, Gerald Steptoe of San Augustine and Dale Steptoe of Nacogdoches; sisters, Doris Lisenby, Ruth Lane, Lavelle Widener, and Sue Sterling, all of Buna; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Steptoe; parents, George and Laura Sheard; brothers, Clyde Sheard, Estel Sheard, Nelson Sheard, and Tommy Sheard; and sisters, Georgie B. Sanford, Mozelle Russo and Sheila Coulter.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 24, at the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home chapel in San Augustine with Bro. Gerald Sowell officiating. Committal service and interment followed to Sowell Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Gerald Steptoe, Dale Steptoe, Stephen Steptoe, Blake Steptoe, Ray Thornton, and Don White.

Arrangements were under the direction of Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in San Augustine.
