Barbara Ann Brittain, 87, of San Augustine passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Summit Healthcare Center.

She was born Dec. 28, 1934, in Alton, IL, to parents Raymond Earl Nail and Elsie Fay (Patton) Nail and had lived in San Augustine most of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir.

She was a very loved, respected, and admired teacher. She began her career at West Sabine Elementary School, Pineland, in 1963 and after two years she joined the San Augustine Elementary faculty and remained with San Augustine ISD until her retirement in 1993. Animals held a very special place in her heart. She had rescued a countless number of stray dogs and cats during her life. Her pets were her constant companions.

Her survivors include her children, Lee Brittain and wife, Angie of Nacogdoches, Charlie Brittain and wife, Sherri of Nacogdoches and Kathy Brittain and Frank Marshall of San Augustine; two grandsons, Adam Brittain and wife, Elmira and Brent Brittain; great-grandchildren, Aiden Brittain, Kiera Brittain and Bailey Brittain; and her nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Roy Brittain, in 2007; her parents, Raymond Earl and Elsie Fay Nail; her brother, Bill Rutledge; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Brittain; and a great-grandson, Bryce Brittain. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 23, at Wyman
