Douglas Hamilton
Douglas Hamilton, 80, of Lufkin, passed away on January 27, 2026. Born on August 12, 1945, in Hemphill, Douglas was the son of Lenon Hamilton and Tenola Thomas Hamilton. A lifetime resident of Sabine County, he was deeply rooted in his community and will be remembered for his significant contributions both in public service and personal life. Douglas dedicated many years to law enforcement, beginning his career with the Houston Police Department. He was a proud member of the Houston Police Officer Pension System and the Houston Police Refined Officer Association. His career also included roles with the U.S. Marshals, as a Deputy in Jasper, and with the USDA Forestry Service. Notably, Douglas was the first Black Bailiff in Angelina County. His commitment to service was further exemplified by his military service as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction.
In addition to his professional life, Douglas was a devout member of the Southside Church of Christ in Nacogdoches, where he participated actively in the community.
Douglas is survived by his loving wife, Maudie Hamilton of Lufkin; sons, Frederick J. Hamilton and wife, Brenda, of Lufkin, and Charles (Chuck) Hall of Dallas; daughter, Angela L. Hamilton-Powe and husband, Errol, of Snailville, GA; brothers, Frank L. Hamilton and wife, Flo, of Port Arthur, Donald R. Hamilton and wife, Lettie, of Rosevine, and Denman C. Hamilton of Ashburn, VA; three grandchildren, Frederick, Jr, DeAndre, and Miracle; and three great-grandchildren, Riley, Pariz, and Jru. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lenon and Tenola Hamilton; daughter, Scharlene Renee Hamilton; brothers, Sherman Hamilton and Ottis Lee Hamilton; and sisters, Letha Gatson, Hazel Robertson, and Cynthia Hamilton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Hemphill Church of Christ, 400 Main Street in Hemphill, under the direction of Starr Funeral Home, with Bro. Frank Hamilton and Bro. Mark Sloan officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery, where Douglas will be honored by the Sabine County Honor Guard and the Houston Police Department. Pallbearers include Steve Gatson, Franklin Hamilton, Tyrone King, Raymond Dennis, Jr., Demaris Hamilton, Oliver Thomas, Jr., Jeff Parks, and Bill Tanton. Honorary pallbearers are Denman Hamilton, Donald Hamilton, Lester King, Roy Bevil, Bennie King, Hillioutt King Sr., Frank Barnett, W. C. Dennis and more.
