Tammie Chance Bennett of Hemphill, passed away at the age of 63 on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in her hometown. A beloved figure in her community, Tammie was known for her loving nature and dedication to her family and friends. Tammie graduated from Hemphill High School in 1980 and remained a lifelong resident of the town. She later became a school board member, serving the same school that she had attended all those years. She began her professional career at Chance Construction, where she worked as an office manager, later transitioning to TxDot in the same capacity, a position she held for 17 years until her retirement.

Beyond her professional life, Tammie was a well-loved, active member of her community and was a longtime member of the East Mayfield Baptist Church, where she was baptized as a child.

Tammie is survived by her beloved mother, Delores Stewart of Hemphill; her husband of 18 years, Benny Bennett of Hemphill; and a loving mother to her daughters, Tana Chance of Hemphill and Jamie O'Quinn and husband, Josh, of Diana; sons, Chris Bennett and wife, Nicole, of Rayburn, Richard Loren Bennett and wife, Jayla, of Milam, and Zachary Bennett of Nacogdoches. She adored her grandchildren: Hayden Sepulvado, Heidi Sepulvado, Jake Bennett, RaLea Bennett, Ava Rose Bennett, and Jeremy O'Quinn and Karlee, Jason O'Quinn, Justin O'Quinn, and Bobbi Kate Bennett; and her brother, Timothy Stewart and Jamee Miller, of Hemphill and IYKYK, Jay Chance of Hemphill.

Her father, Wayne D. Stewart, preceded her in death. She enjoyed traveling, spending cherished moments with her children and grandchildren, her dog, Mickey, and mowing on her beloved 28-year-old John Deere, Gertie. Tammie's presence brought joy and warmth to all who knew her.

Funeral services were held December 20, 2025, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Bro. Floyd Wright and Rocky White. Her honorary pallbearers are Ken Courville, Rocky White, Joe Clark, Cody Duffey, Shane Clark and Cole Stewart. Tammie's life and legacy will be celebrated by all those she touched.
