James Donohue Waller
James Donohue Waller of Pineland, passed away October 11, 2025. James was born on January 4, 1947.
James “Jim” Donohue Waller proudly served his country for 20 years as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. His time in the military shaped his sense of discipline, honor, and loyalty — values that defined his life long after he hung up his uniform.
He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Carol Waller; his son, Zachary W. Waller; and his stepdaughter, Carolyn Abbott. He also leaves behind his beloved granddaughter, Siena Yzaguirre; two great-grandchildren, Ripley and Indigo Yzaguirre; and his two sisters, Carol Pumpian and Beth Houston. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A proud resident of Sabine County for 32 years, Jim was deeply connected to his community. He enjoyed the company of his fellow veterans and took great pride in supporting the local community through his active membership in the Hemphill Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10351. He was well known and loved by the Bingo players at the VFW’s community events.
He had a lifelong passion for the outdoors — he loved fishing in the lakes of East Texas and found great joy in spending time at the gun range, where he practiced and honed his marksmanship skills. Whether he was sharing a story, offering a helping hand, or laughing with friends, Jim lived with purpose and integrity.
His courage, loyalty, and kindness will be remembered always by those whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held at the Hemphill Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Details regarding the date and time will be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hemphill VFW Post 10351 in honor of Jim’s memory and lifelong service.
Memorial service date and time will be posted at a later date on the VFW post 10351 website.
