Ernest Martin Wesner, Jr.
Ernest Martin Wesner, Jr., 97, passed away on September 4, 2025, in Hemphill. Ernest was born on July 25, 2025 in Sante Fe, Oklahoma to Ernest Martin Wesner and Sadie Cobb Wesner. Ernest grew up with a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for learning. He graduated from Beaumont High School and went on to build a long and respected career as a chemist in the laboratory at the Mobile Oil Refinery. His meticulous nature and commitment to excellence made him a valued member of the team throughout his many years of service.
Ernest proudly served as a member of the Texas State Guard. During his time with the Guard, he was activated to serve in Washington State—a chapter of his life that reflected his enduring sense of duty and patriotism.
In 1987, Ernest settled in Hemphill after spending many years in Beaumont. There, he became an integral part of the local community. A familiar sight on his front porch six days a week with coffee in hand and friends by his side, Ernest cultivated lasting friendships through simple daily rituals. He was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed and remained active well into his later years—whether working in his yard, tending to his garden, or tinkering on projects in his garage.
A man of faith, Ernest was an active member of Six Mile Baptist Church. His involvement reflected not only spiritual devotion but also a commitment to fellowship and service.
Ernest found joy in life’s quiet pleasures. He was an avid fisherman who relished time spent outdoors. He also had a sharp mind for puzzles—crossword challenges and Sudoku were among his favorite pastimes. His happiest moments were spending time with his family.
He shared 69 loving years with his wife, Mary Elizabeth Wesner, who preceded him in death. Together they built a life rooted in love and mutual respect.
Ernest is survived by his son John Wesner and wife, Lisa, of Garland; and grandchildren, Christopher Wesner and Brittney Wesner, both of Garland. His legacy lives on through them and through all those whose lives he touched with kindness and generosity.
