Janis Sue Butler Bryant
In Loving Memory of Janis Sue Butler Bryant July 30, 1958 – June 11, 2025 It is with overwhelming sorrow that we announce the passing of Janis Sue Butler Bryant, 66, of Hemphill. Surrounded by her loving family, Janis entered into eternal rest on June 11, 2025. Janis was born on July 30, 1958, in Pasadena, to W.H. Butler and Martha Sue Butler. She later met and married the love of her life, Stephen Lloyd Bryant. The two shared nearly 45 years of marriage and built a life filled with love, devotion, and family.
Together, Janis and Steve raised two children, Audrey Lavon and James Andrew, and built deep roots in the Fairmount community. Janis was co-owner and operator of Sandy Creek RV Park and Steve’s Welding Service, working tirelessly alongside her husband. A woman of incredible strength, resilience, and compassion, Janis was the heart of her family—a nurturing, patient, and endlessly loving mother, mawmaw, and great grandma.
Her life was centered around her family, who brought her immeasurable joy. Janis was a proud and protective mother to her children and a fun, loving presence in the lives of her nine grandchildren. She delighted in gardening, beach vacations, and long walks along the shoreline searching for sand treasures. Most of all, she loved spending time with Steve, by his side in all their endeavors and adventures.
Janis’s faith was also a guiding force in her life. She and Steve were members of Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church in Bronson.
She was preceded in death by her father W.H. Butler, her mother Martha Sue Butler, her brother Jimmy Butler, her sisters June and Judy Butler, and her beloved grandson Bryant Guy Gist.
Janis is survived by her devoted husband, Stephen Lloyd Bryant of Hemphill; her daughter, Audrey Chandler and fiancé Joshua of Many, Louisiana; her son, James Bryant and wife Anna of Hemphill; and her sister, Joy Whitehead and husband Jesse of Cuero.
She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Colton Chandler and fiancé Natasha of Sulphur, Louisiana; Cason Chandler and fiancé Ryelee of Sulphur, Louisiana; Kevin Gist and wife Stephanie of Palestine; Emily Gist, Cierra Gist, and Kiara Gist of Texas; and Finley and Penelope Gist of Oklahoma. All of whom brought light and laughter to her final years.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 13, at 2:00 PM at Rosevine Missionary Baptist Church in Rosevine, Texas. Officiating will be Pastor David Ebarb of Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church.
Janis’s love, strength, and selfless devotion will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family will forever cherish the legacy she leaves behind forever and always.
