Eugene Joseph Procella
Eugene Joseph Procella, 98, of Hemphill, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in Nacogdoches.
Born on September 25, 1926, in Hemphill to Henry Procella and Marcelena Parrie Procella, Eugene was a lifelong resident of Sabine County. He graduated from Hemphill High School and proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy.
In 1953, Eugene became the owner and operator of Procella's Service Station, a full-service station offering tires and ice. He ran the business with dedication until his retirement in 2010. Deeply committed to his community, he also served on the Hemphill ISD School Board for 16 years.
Eugene was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching games on television. In his later years at the Arbor, he found joy in playing BINGO—where he was known for winning often—as well as throwing darts and golfing.
He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Hough of Nacogdoches and Debbie Williams and husband, Marty, of Brazoria; daughter-in-law, Vickey Procella of Hemphill; grandchildren, Rob Hough and wife, Rebecca, Bryan Hough and wife, Katie, Eric Procella and wife, Lana, Andrea Procella Heslip and husband, Eric, Holly Soderman and husband, Sam, and Marci Reyes and husband, Jason; along with 19 great-grandchildren.
Eugene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Eulene Procella; his son, Joe Procella; son-in-law, Robert Hough; and brothers Henry Procella, Rayford Procella, Glendale Procella, Ernest Procella, Otis Paul Procella, and Billy Brad Lankford.
A Rosary will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street in Hemphill.
Visitation will follow until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Hemphill Cemetery with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.
