John Henry Smith, 77, of San Augustine, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Colonial Pines Healthcare Center.

He was born Nov. 12, 1944, in San Augustine County, to parents, J.W. Smith and Joyce Marie Byrd Smith and was a longtime area resident. He served San Augustine County as Constable for Precinct 1 for 16 years and was a poultry grower for 40 years. He was a member of Rosevine Missionary Baptist Church.

His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Peggy Jean Smith of San Augustine; son, John Patrick Smith and wife, Tina Lynn of San Augustine; daughter, Libby Jean Smith of Center; brother, Nolan Smith and wife, Sue; sisters, Betty Bolton and husband, Travis, Ann Eddings and husband, Gaylon, and Mary Eberlan; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Joyce Smith; granddaughter, Mindy Marie Smith; and a son-in-law, Larry Barton.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 30, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel. Committal service and interment will follow at Liberty Hill Memorial Garden, Hwy. 147 North.

Pallbearers include, Tommy Bennefield, Glen Allan, Gaylon Eddings, Randy Bennefield, Richard Smith, Travis Bolton, Claborne Allen, and Ronald Smith.
