James Michael Blackwell, 76, of Hemphill, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022, at his home in Hemphill. He was known to most as “Blackie” or “Skipper.” He was born in Hattisburg, MS, on

He was born in Hattisburg, MS, on Dec. 20,1945, to Daniel Blackwell and Donnell Beasley Blackwell. He was a resident of Sabine County for decades, having previously resided in Houston, where he worked as an operator for Reynolds Aluminum making cans for beverages. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by his family and community.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Juanita Diamond Blackwell; sons, Michael Blackwell and Bradley Blackwell and wife, Cindy of Lufkin; stepsons, Brett Gresham of Many, LA, and Sean Gresham of Austin; grandchildren, Shane Blackwell, Jessica and Rob Blackwell, Spencer and Mackenzie Blackwell, Dillion Blackwell, Macy Blackwell, Chase Gresham and wife, Destiny, Crysta Coble, Chase Gresham Coble and Jasmine Phillips; great-grandchildren, Rhea Bolding, Annabelle Bolding, Raylon Bolding, Serenity Gresham and Carson Johanson.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; a sister, Karen Baeza.

Cremation arrangements were handled by McNutt Funeral Home in Lufkin.

A memorial service will be announced at a later time.
