Alva Ray Horton
Alva Ray 'Tinker' Horton, age 76, of Milam, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. He was born on February 13, 1948, in DeRidder, Louisiana, to Lige Horton and Mayetta Odell Conn Horton. Tinker was a lifetime resident of Sabine County. He enjoyed making the rounds, drinking coffee, and visiting with his buddies. Tinker also had a passion for raising chickens and horses. Tinker dedicated many years to maintaining roads for Sabine County. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he worshipped. In his free time, Tinker enjoyed fishing, hunting, and running deer, fox, and coons with his hounds.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Horton of Milam; his children, Diane Bardwell and husband Chauncey, Kevin Horton and wife Jody, Gina Jackson and husband Jerry, and Angie Lowe and husband Bubba, all of Milam; his grandchildren, Josh Elliott and wife, Sharon, Kayla White and husband, Kolby, Christopher Lowe and wife, Shelby, Kyle Jackson and wife, Jessica, Kimberley Hamilton and husband, Robert, Kendra Crowell and husband, Jeffrey, Ashley Winters and husband, Jake, Cullen Wright, Kevin Ray Horton, Jr. and wife, Skyler, Hannah Bardwell and husband, Kaleb and Sharissa Bardwell; 24 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. George Ross officiating.
Burial will follow the services at New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Josh Elliott, Christopher Lowe, Kyle Jackson, Cullen Wright, Kevin Ray Horton, Jr., and David Elliott. Honorary pallbearers include Kolby White, Robert Hamilton, Jeffery Crowell, Jake Winters, Matthew Arney, and Kaleb Hall.
