Body

Cornell Vaughn, 66, of Hemphill, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at his residence in Hemphill surrounded by family and friends.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1955, in Louisville, KY, to Leonard O'Brien Vaughn and Dorothy Louise Browning. He worked offshore as a mechanic for Mobil Oil. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hemphill. He worked hard, played hard and loved the people in his life hardest of all. "Don't waste daylight" was his motto and when his list of chores was complete, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing as much as his health would allow. He would drop everything to help family and friends, and when someone had a problem, he saw solutions. There was nothing he couldn't figure out how to fix, and he constantly amazed those who knew him with his creative ideas and solutions. He was a strong man with a rough exterior and a gentle heart and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Terry Vaughn of Hemphill; sons, Cornell "little brother" Vaughn of Houston, Brian McKinney and wife, Tina of Center, Brad Hall and wife, Kim of Friendswood, and Ben Hall and wife, Jennifer of League City; daughter, Christy Staines and husband, Louie of League City; sisters, Louria Ramey of Danbury and Charlotte Woodward of Danbury; grandchildren, Paige, Tiffany, Madison, Carter, Maelynn, Ava, Emmalee, and Raigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Vaughn and Dorothy Vaughn; and one sister, Patricia Ann Vaughn.

Funeral services were Tuesday, May 17, at Starr Funeral Home Chapel in Hemphill, Texas with Bro. Troy Richardson officiating.

Burial followed services in Gravelhill Cemetery in Hemphill, with Carter Hall, Tom Brown, Cornell "Little Brother" Vaughn, Brian McKinney, Brad Hall, Ben Hall, Morgan Tomlinson, Brian Henken, Doug Ramey and Chris Henken serving as pallbearers.
