Richard Dale Owen, 78, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023 in Sabine County Hospital.

Richard R. D., was born in Gulfport, Mississippi on September 20, 1944 to Edwin C. Owen and Alice Rutledge Owen. He served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Later, he became a welder working for Bethlehem Steel in the Livingston shipyard. He had lived in Orange, for many years before moving to Sabine County 30 years ago.

R. D. is survived by his children, Brandon McGalin of Hemphill, Lacey Mitchell and husband, Ricky of Hemphill, Michael Dibenedetto and wife, Wendy, of Houston, Alice Teeler and husband, Chad, of Galveston, Dale Owen Avant and husband, Sandy, of Orange; brother, Charlie Owen and wife, Diane, of Mississippi; sister, Dr. Gail Megason of Mississippi; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Hannah, Harrison, Madison, Dalton, Brett, Lauren, Chris, Andrew, Kalop and Kadence; and great grandchildren, Everly Kate, Blaize, Brody and Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin C. Owen and Alice Rutledge Owen; and his brother, Dr. Bill Owen.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements were handled by Starr Funeral Home of Hemphill, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, it is the family's request that honorary donations instead be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters Gulf Coast, Roatan, Because We Care and Wounded Warriors Family Support.
