Kenneth Wayne Bennefield of San Augustine passed away Friday, Nov. 4, at Nacogdoches Medical Center at the age of 88 years, 2 months, 23 days. He was born August 12, 1934, in San Augustine to parents Wesley Hercie and Bonnie Lee (Alms) Bennefield. He was a lifelong resident of the White Rock community area of San Augustine County and worked many years as a logger in the East Texas forests.

On March 10, 1956, he was married to the former Emma Janett Cooper and they shared 63 years of marriage prior to her death. He was a faithful Christian and dedicated member of White Rock Baptist Church, serving over 40 years as a deacon. Kenneth also served his country in the U.S. Army, with various roles which included an MP officer.

His survivors include his children, Kerry Bennefield and wife Dana of San Augustine, Steven Bennefield of San Augustine, Tammy Whitton and husband Jeremy of Joaquin, and Robert Bennefield of San Augustine; grandchildren, Zachery Bennefield, Bonnie Townes, Wesley Bennefield, John Bennefield, Samantha Peterson, Jeri Creek, Reneigh Ritter, Heather Bennefield, Justin Bennefield, Gary Bennefield, and Kris Bennefield; and great-grandchildren, Bayleigh, Charlie, Emma, Angel, Gabriela, Emily, Zoe, Brantley, Duncan, Cody, Madison, Edward, Jocelyn, and Levi.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma 'Janett' Bennefield, on May 24, 2019; his parents, Wesley 'Hercie' and Bonnie Lee Bennefield; and his siblings.

A Celebration of Life funeral service was held Nov. 8, at White Rock Baptist Church near San Augustine with Bro. Mike Belgard officiating. Committal service and interment followed at Corinth Cemetery under the direction of Wyman Roberts Funeral Home.
