This week we observed Holy Week and remember the sacrifice Christ made for us. We look forward to celebrating the resurrection this Easter Sunday. I hope you enjoy time with your families this Easter weekend.

The JR Huffman Library hosted story time this week with two great stories about Easter and Resurection Sunday. After their story, they had some rabbit food, special photos and and an Eastr egg hunt at the Library Gazebo. Thanks to all who came and helped make it a memorable day.

Sabine County Hospital hosted family Easter Egg Hunt for their employees and were treated with a visit from the Easter Bunny himself. April 30th the hospital is hosting a health fair and will be celebrating 45 years of serving Sabine County. You are invited! The Reporter will share a special edition highlighting the hospital. The Sabine County Chamber of Commerce gathered for its monthly meeting on April 8, 2025, embracing a fresh approach to community involvement by holding the meeting at The Lost Frontier—a shift from its traditional location at the Feed Store Café.

The “submarine” that ran aground on 87 last week has been removed! For those unaware of the reason for the closure of highway 87 between Hemphill and Yellowpine, it was due to oversized load of an empty container tank that detached from the truck while in transport to Florida and came to rest in the ditch of the southbound side. Crews showed up on scene at 9:05AM, consisting of 1 crane, 4 18 wheelers with counterweights, and a smaller flatbed of gear for the crane. It took about 2 hours for the crane to attach all its counterweights and get stabilized, then about 3 hours to get the tank picked and wheel assembly loaded on 2 different trailers, and another 2 hours to take the counterweights off and put up all their gear. The tank is being taken back to the manufacturer to have it inspected and repaired for the damages it received. The only damage affecting the county was a small portion of the asphalt (being repaired right now) the grass on the shoulder, and a little bit of brush in the woods of the private property where the tank came to rest.

Growing old alongside your furry friend brings cherished memories, but it also brings inevitable changes. As they age, pets slow down, may experience behavioral changes, and develop stiff joints; one of the most jarring changes that come with a pet's aging can be their loss of vision.
