Shortly after World War I, the Gold Star Mothers' Club was formed in the United States to provide support for mothers that lost sons or daughters in the war. The name came from the custom of families of servicemen hanging a banner called a Service Flag in the window of their homes. The Service Flag had a star for each family member in the military. Living servicemen were represented by a blue star, and those who had lost their lives were represented by a gold star. On the last Sunday of September, Gold Star Mother's Day is observed in the U.S. in their honor.

The Sabine County Commissioners Court was held on Monday, August 26th, and after opening prayer and pledge to the flag, approved the minutes from the previous meeting. There was one lineitem transfer to consider and approval was given to move $20,000 from Pct.3 capitol reserve to road-base item line. There were no budget amendments to consider. Approval was also given to all departmental reports.

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Richard “Blair” Abney to the Sabine River Authority Board of Directors for a term set to expire on July 6, 2025. The purpose of the Sabine River Authority is to conserve, store, control, preserve, utilize, and distribute the storm and flood waters and the waters of the Sabine River and its tributaries.
