Local business owner arrested again...

We reported in last week’s edition the arrest of local business owner Joshua Jurek. On July 1, he was arrested for violating a protective order. He has violated this more than twice in a 12 month period of time, so this violation has actually been bumped from a misdemeanor to a 3rd degree felony, carrying with it the possiblility of a $10K fine as well as a 2 - 10 year prison sentence.

Criminal Court was in session Tuesday, May 31 with the 273rd District Judge Jim Payne presiding in Sabine County at the Hemphill courthouse. First up was Mason Bradley Belk, was sentenced to 40 years of confinement for the indictments handed down in April of 2021, on intent to terrorize Doris Darlene Newman, or inflict bodily injury on Newman, intentionally and knowingly abduct Newman, herafter styled to complainant, by restricting the movements of the complainant without her consent so as to interfere substantially with her liberty by confining her with the intent to prevent her liberation, by secreting or holding her in a place where she was not likely to be found.

Darci Bass arrested in Sabine Parish after local police chase Friday evening

According to BDC Radio, Darci Bass was arrested by Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office on May 30. The report states that Bass, "white female, 41, was arrested on charges of aggravated flight from officer, aggravated assault with motor vehicle upon peace officer, resisting
an officer, by Sabine Parish Sheriff's office. She remains in jail."
