Sister Dainer B. Edwards received her call from the Lord to depart this earthly life very early Wednesday morning, March 8, 2023, at the Legacies Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hemphill, Texas. At this time, her family would like to present this eulogy for memorial publishing. A beautiful daughter was born to Jasper and Julia Barrett on October 28, 1924, in Milam, Texas. She was the youngest of her siblings and was affectionately called 'Boot' by them. Her parents preceded her in death as well as her siblings, Marion, Rebecca, Jane, Faydell, and Tiny. Dainer's education began at Kyle Community School with Mrs. Bolton; her sister, Jane, and others also served as her teachers. In order to receive her high school diploma, she had to relocate to Tyler, Texas, and attended Emmett J. Scott High School. While there, she lived with Mrs. Warren and her family. Upon graduation from Emmett Scott, Dainer enrolled in Texas College and graduated in 1947 with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. While attending college, she worked for the Blackstone Hotel and prepared salads. Dainer was a charter member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Gamma Epsilon Chapter.

Her family were members of the New Zion Methodist Church in Geneva and at age twelve she united with the Church. She often spoke of them walking at night with lamp lights or riding in a wagon to attend church. Dainer became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church during the year 1950. She served as the church clerk, supervised the church kitchen, was a Mission Teacher, participated in church programs, and worked with various committees when the present church was being built. On Sunday mornings, she was excited about attending Sunday School, giving her thoughts to her class and being a part of morning worship. She remained active as a member, until her health declined in December 2016. It was important for her to fellowship with other churches for their various programs. Dainer's teaching career began at Blue Springs in the Robinson Bend Community, then this school was combined with Hemphill Colored, which later became 'Thomas Johnson- grades one through twelve. She was the sponsor for the class of 1963.

In the fall of 1966, she and Mr.Coleman integrated the staff of Hemphill High School. While at Hemphill she became chairperson and began the Home Economics Cooperative Education Program. A great relationship was established when she had the opportunity to teach an interesting course to a class of all males. Later, she met Pierce Edwards and on June 20, 1950, Dainer joined him in holy matrimony and to this union one daughter was born; also, through this union, she became a mother to her husband's daughter. In June, 2008, her husband of fifty-eight years preceded her in death.

Dainer participated and was a member of many organizations including: Toledo Bend Retired Teachers, Texas College Alumni & Ex Students Association, , Child Welfare Board, founding member of Gasby New Zion Cemetery Committee, Macedonia Cemetery, East Mayfield Civic Club, Pink Lady at Sabine County Hospital, and Sabine Valley District Association. She worked diligently, researching historical information about the Black Culture in Sabine County.

She always showed loved to others through telephone calls, cards with a gift enclosed, or showing up in person. No one was a stranger to her. Everyday she had a smile and a conversation for anyone she encountered. Dainer leaves to cherish her precious memories: two loving and devoted daughters, Bettie J. Manual of Milwaukee, WI, and Patsy G. Edwards of Missouri City, TX; two grandchildren, Carlotta Manual and Eric Manual, both of Milwaukee, WI; eight great-grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; one nephew, Jerry Cook; nieces-in-law, Ruth Cook and Kate Cook; nephews-in-law, Earnest Edwards (Jacqueline), Reverend James Edwards (Kay), and Reverend Lawrence Edwards (Ira); a host of great-nieces and nephews for four generations; one foster daughter, Kathyern Wilson; play son, Patrick Thomas; a very special friend, who she treated like a son, Bert Askson; all former students and two whom she communicated with, almost daily, Shirley Blake and Yvonne Lee; and a host of cousins and friends.

Services were handled by Percy Garner and Son Mortuary and she was laid to rest at Macedoia Cemetery in Hemphill, TX.
