Clarence Melvin Matlock, known affectionately as Butch, passed away on January 19, 2026, in Hemphill, at the age of 77. Born on March 13, 1948, in Gueydan, Louisiana to Howard Melvin 'Pete' Matlock and Effie Jean Breaux Matlock, Butch was a cherished member of his community.

Butch spent the majority of his life in Crowley, Louisiana before moving to Hemphill, eight years prior to his passing. He was an avid bass fisherman, actively involved with the Bass Fisherman's Association and the Bayou Bend Bass Club in Crowley. His enthusiasm for community engagement was evident through his participation as a Bingo caller and his involvement with the Crowley High School Band Boosters.

Professionally, Butch dedicated many years to the petroleum industry, specializing in oil field production. His hard work and dedication to his career were well respected by his colleagues and peers.

Butch was a devout member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Crowley, Louisiana, where he participated actively in the church community.

He is survived by his sons, Howard Matlock and wife, Amanda, of Breaux Bridge, LA; Steven Matlock and wife, Michelle, of Rayne, LA; Christopher Matlock of Hemphill; and Marcus Matlock and wife, Danielle, of Egan, LA; daughter, Karen Matlock of Duson, LA; brother, Bill Matlock and wife, Marile, of Longville, LA; sisters, Joanne Abshire of Crowley and Carol Sue 'Suzie' Vincent and husband, Kirby, of Gueydan; grandchildren, Ryan, Joshua, Brandon, Cole, Hannah, Nicholas, and Meghan; and great-grandchildren, Braylon, Ahna, Mason, and Olivia. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Elaine Matlock; brothers, Russell Matlock, Tommy Lee Matlock, and Louis Joseph 'Jay' Vincent Jr.; and grandson, Damien.

Details of the memorial services will be announced at a later date. The Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, Texas is assisting the family with the arrangements. Butch's legacy of love, dedication, and community involvement will be remembered by all who knew him.
