Johnny Paul Wallace passed away on September 9, 2025, in Hemphill, at the age of 71. A lifelong resident of Sabine County, he was born on January 23, 1954, in San Augustine to Paul Wallace and Lodies Mae Dickerson Wallace and remained deeply rooted in the community that shaped his life. Johnny Paul graduated from West Sabine High School with the Class of 1973. He went on to build a career as a skilled welder, working for many years with Temple-Inland and Merle Greer Construction.

Beyond his professional life, Johnny Paul found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful connections. He loved to fish and dance—two passions that brought him happiness and camaraderie throughout his life. In recent years, he could often be found on the back porch of Hemphill Care Center playing 42 with friends or rolling cigarettes for fellow residents who needed a hand. These small acts of kindness reflected his generous spirit and easygoing nature.

Johnny Paul is survived by his daughter, Beverly Jones and her husband, Jason, of San Augustine; grandchildren, Tyler Meeks and wife, Alexa, and Hunter Meeks; and great-grandchildren, LouKaisee Meeks, Brance Meeks and Myla Meeks; uncles I.D. Dickerson and Charles Wayne Dickerson of Bronson; as well as Betty Fay Davis and her children, Julie Faye Jacks and husband, Douglas, Bubba Davis and wife, Amanda and Turkey Davis and numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lodies Mae Wallace.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.

A funeral service celebrating Johnny Paul's life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2025 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Ray Powell and Bro. Curtis White officiating.

Burial will follow services in Rosevine Cemetery with Tyler Meeks, Hunter Meeks, Jerry Dickerson, Timothy Davis, Doug Jacks and Daniel Latham serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Hinote, Dylan Jacks and Jason Jacks.

Instead of flowers, donations can be made to Starr Funeral Home to help with expenses.
