After we were contacted by Sabine County Sheriff’s office last night concerning the arrest of fugitive Matthew Edgar, we immediately began to reach out to Ms. Darci Bass, the mother of victim, Livye Heathyr Lewis. Bass had recently updated her cell phone number and our contact info was out of date. Gratefully, this morning, we were able to speak to her by phone and her reaction was one of both shock and relief.
“I am very thankful to the justice system for finally capturing him and I want to see him complete the process of being convicted and sentenced for my worst nightmare,” Bass stated.
Even though she wasn’t able to be reached right away, she stated that officers did immediately try to reach out  and she was grateful for that. Sabine County Sheriff Tom Maddox finally was able to get her confirmation that the convicted murderer was in custody and he apologized for not being able to reach her sooner.
When asked for her reaction or comment, Bass stated, “To everyone that kept reaching out, I just said -God comes thru- He always does. Absolutely, I was in shock at first. But the one thing I want for Matthew is for him to find the Lord and ask for forgiveness. For me, I want to ask him for the truth - tell me what happened that night- exactly- and why he did it. That closure is needed.”
Before we concluded our conversation, Ms. Bass related that for the first time since that Halloween night, she can finally breathe. He’s behind bars, convicted and soon to serve his 99 years.

The Reporter will be live with a press statement from Sabine County Sheriff’s Office at 1 p.m.  Tune in as we try to get answers and confirmation on Edgar’s whereabouts in the months he was on the run as well as the possibility of more arrests involving those who are rumored to have been helping him.
