The long wait is over and the treasures from Hemphill's Old Gym have arrived at the Hemphill ISD ADMIN Building. Tuesday morning, Marvin Mott with TKC - Texas Knives and Collectibles, delivered the order placed by the district when the old gym was being torn down in preparation for the building of the new middle school. All extra-curricular groups, athletic departments, cheer, band, twirlers, AG and more participated in the historical fundraiser.

The sorting process will begin immediately and by the end of the week, if you ordered one of these special mementos, you will be notified about pickup by the seller or organization you purchased from. We are also including lots of photos. The marksmanship is beautiful and Mr. Mott described a unique process for each knife guaranteeing that no two instruments would be the same.

Here are details from the makers on both the Gym Brick Knives and the Gym Wood Knives.

TKC proudly presents the Hemphill Gym Brick Trapper and the Hemphill Gym Floor Wood
Trapper.

Constructed circa 1936, by the WA, the old Hemphill High School Gymnasium was part of the Great Depression era program that employed jobless young men.

This project was responsible for the construction of the High School Gym, the fieldstone fence that surrounds the Sabine County Courthouse and a renovation of the courthouse third floor.

Standing virgin longleaf pine from Sabine County, estimated to have been growing since the late 1700s, was used in some of the large timbers for the roof support trusses in the gym. The old Knox/Temple Lumber Company Mill, located in East Mayfield (western section of Hemphill) that burned in 1938, processed most of the timbers and lumber used in the Hemphill High School Gym construction. In approximately 75 years of use, the gym has hosted countless classes, graduations, community activities and special programs.

Through a special process, some brick from the Hemphill High School gym entrance has been preserved as knife handles for the Hemphill Gym Brick Trapper. which  features gym brick handles. The Tru-sharpTM surgical steel Clip and Spey blades are laser engraved commemorating the Hemphill Gym Brick Trapper.

Through a separate special process, some wood from the Hemphill High School gym floor has been preserved as knife handles for the Hemphill Gym Floor Wood Trapper.
