West Sabine ISD Band Director Placed on Administrative Leave; Investigation Underway

PINELAND, Texas — West Sabine Independent School District (ISD) confirmed Tuesday that a staff member, identified by local reports as the high school band director, has been placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation.
Superintendent Dr. Carnelius Gilder confirmed the change in employment status but declined to elaborate on the specific nature of the allegations, citing the need to protect the integrity of the process and the privacy rights of those involved. While external reports have alleged inappropriate interactions involving students and band members, the district has not officially confirmed these claims.
The Sabine County Reporter reached out to the Pineland Police Department for a statement regarding law enforcement involvement; however, they were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
District Communication and Parent Meeting
In a "Notice to Tiger Nation" posted on the district's website, Dr. Gilder emphasized that the safety and well-being of students remain the district's highest priority.
"This action was immediately taken to prompt an investigation into an allegation toward the staff member," the statement read. "The District takes all reports involving the safety and well-being of our students with the utmost seriousness".
Following the online announcement, the district held a Band Parent Meeting to address community concerns. During the meeting, Dr. Gilder, with continued transparency and integrity, defined and detailed the steps the district had taken.
