The regular meeting of the HISD School Board opened Thursday evening, May 19th, with the invocation, pledge to the flag, and reading of the Mission statement, and much anticipation of selection of a new HISD Superintendent, but that selection did not happen during this meeting. A special meeting is slated for May 24th, at 6:00 p.m. to continue discussion for that selection.

Four board members (pictured above and standing right to left, Carl Beal Jr., Marty Griffin, Gary Parks, and Tammy Cox) did take their Oaths of Office. The Board then decided against any reorganization of Board Officers and voted to retain all officers to their existing positions.

The Board then consented to all regular and special meeting minutes from April 21 thru May 11, and financial & investment reports for the month of April 2022.

The Superintendent’s Report revealed that there are presently 899 students enrolled in HISD. There were also 5 resignations to report, Monica Butler, Chad Harkins, Kimberly Procell, Connie Felts, and Donna Moss. Names of new hires for various vacated positions will be forthcoming next week. The school bus that was involved in a recent accident is considered a Total Loss, as it would cost more to fix than what it’s replacement value is. The ground breaking date for the New Middle School is set for May 27th at 10:00 a.m. The Hemphill ISD Foundation Awards totaled over $14,000.

Superintendent’ s Recommendations were acted upon as well. A tax refund request was approved in the amount of $1,036.73 to Stotz Family Trust. Approval was given to accept a donation of $500 from Georgia-Pacific to support HISD Buildings and Trades program. Approved also was a decision to renew copier lease for HISD. Approval was given for an Advocacy Resolution for submission to , and consideration by TASB, requesting that actual student enrollment numbers be used instead of ADA (average daily attendance).

Budget Amendment #10 was approved for the 2021-2022 school year; this was for the towing expense of the school bus involved in the recent accident, back to school property.
