Hemphill ISD celebrates graduates and scholarship night

Over $992,000 in scholarships were awarded to graduating Hornets Tuesday evening with 19 organizations on hand to personally reward the 32 students for their years of study. Belinda Ancelot directed the program which included five Hornets receiving full academic scholarships, and several partial academic and athletic scholarships. U.S. Navy Petty Officer Daniel Broome, currently stationed at the Naval Recruitment Center in Lufkin, made the trip to present Marisedia Rodriguez and Trey Reynolds with 4 year Navy ROTC scholarships. The value of each is approx. $180,000, which includes full tuition, including books, at an approved college or university, uniforms, and a monthly subsistence allowance. In return, the recipient agrees to complete a specific course of study, then, on graduation, they will be sworn into either the Navy or Marines for a term of eight years, at least three years on active duty.

Others on hand to present scholarships in person included: Lions Club of Hemphill, Community Fellowship Church, Felix Holmes Memorial Scholarship, Shelby Bank, Liberty Springs, Sarah Sears Memorial Scholarship, Ory Sanford Memorial Scholarship, American Legion Post 197, J.W. and Mozell Dupree Scholarship, HHS Little Green Band, Ameri-Tex Services, Geneva Baptist Church, Toledo Bend Retired Teachers Scholarship, Methodist Church, Bethel Baptist Church, ATPE, and the Ronald Barlow Memorial Scholarship.
