When Dr. Edward Rynearson, Principal of Pittsburghs' Fifth Avenue High School, founded the original chapter of the National Honor Society, he set in motion a movement that would become the standard for High School academic achievement. One hundred and one years later, the NHS has become a worldwide organization that stresses not only academics, but community involvement by its members. The 2021-2022 class of Hemphill High School added 23 new NHS inductees, 18 Sophomores, 3 Juniors, and 2 Seniors, to the previous 51 members. Tuesday evening, Angela Iles and Kristi McDaniel supervised the ceremony as eachnewmember signed the Hemphill HS NHS Ledger, then lit a candle whichrepresented the Four Tenets of the organization...Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character...finally, repeating the NHS Pledge.
