Fellowship
I was watching the neighbor’s horses, as I do most mornings. They are beautiful animals. Two of them are a lovely reddish brown. The other, a darker color, belongs to someone else. Against the green of the grass they make an eye catching picture. But, I notice, that I rarely see one of them alone. If one appears, the other two won’t be far behind her.
When our children were small, we tried to give them as normal a life as possible. It wasn’t always easy, living in the parsonage, so, we tried to allow them to have pets at least. We realized how lonely one puppy would be, especially at night, so, we always got two. The three kids could share them this way. And the puppies would have another of their kind.
Mornings usually find me on my front porch. That is where I like to eat breakfast, pray and read the Bible. I watch the lovely white birds that spend a lot of time in the field. I can easily see all of this from my porch. I have learned that these birds are called Cattle Egrets. They stay close to the horses. This is because they feast on the bugs and other little creatures that the horses stir up.
One thing that I have noticed about these lovely wingers. They seem to like to fly across the pasture. They make such a lovely picture in the early morning light. Their sparkling white bodies against the emerald green of the many trees, are beautiful. And they are usually in a flock that stays together. Today, I noticed several of them flying across the blue sky and out of sight behind the trees. Then, here comes one lagging behind. It flaps its pretty, shimmering wings and hurries to catch up. It does not want to be alone.
I have gone shopping with my children many times. They are grown now, and I don’t go with them very often. If I do, I usually just sit and people-watch while they shop. In the malls, I am entertained with an array of different styles of dress, hairdos and other things. I have noticed that most people wear pull-overs instead of button up shirts. Some people wear outlandish hairdos, and some, unreal colors of hair, even striped with different colors sometimes. But mostly, I have noticed that there is hardly ever only one person, alone. They are usually in groups or at least two together.
I know some people that hate to be alone. If they have to go somewhere, they want to take someone with them. They don’t like to eat alone. They are just “people people.” From what I have seen, I believe this is true. That animals and humans alike, like to be with others of their kind.
Even the Bible speaks of having fellowship with others. Our church allows times for visiting and catching up with fellow members. This is such a blessing for us.
What about you? Do you hate social distancing, covered faces, hidden smiles? Do you love chatting with friends? God created a social loving people!
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
