National Police Week offers honor, remembrance, and peer support, while allowing law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. National Police Week observances are held in Washington DC.

The 2022 Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial and Candlelight Vigil was celebrated on Sunday, May 1, in Austin, Texas. The day started with a buffet style breakfast hosted by Texas Chapters of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), followed by a balloon release to honor the fallen. Transportation was then provided to and from the Capitol Grounds so Survivors and Agency Members could see the wall and compose rubbings of their Officer’s names.

That evening, the State of Texas and the Texas Chapters of C.O.P.S. hosted the 2022 Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony in honor of those Texas Peace Officers who have died in the line of duty.

To those officers still bravely serving, we thank you for your service, and pray God keeps you safe!
