Ann Landers lives in Hemphill, this weekend only at Actors Studio-Inc
Anyone over the age of 50, maybe 55, ok, maybe 60, probably remembers the “Ask Ann Landers” and “Dear Abbey” advice columns in their local papers while growing up. What people may not know is that the two hugely popular advice columnists were in reality twins sisters, Esther Pauline and Pauline Esther Friedman. Was it coincidence that the twins both began writing advice columns, and that they were the others greatest competition?
The answers to these, and many questions you don’t yet know you have (what makes Ann Landers blush?) can be found on stage of the Actors Studio this Friday and Saturday evening, when Marcia Cassanova, a longtime resident of Shreveport, brings her one woman show “The Lady With All The Answers” to Hemphill. She originally performed the play at the Shreveport Little Theater, and the Grand Cane Little Theater, she has also performed the one woman production “At Wits End”, a story of icon Erma Bombeck.
Cassanova accidently became interested in the theater when she refused to allow her then teen daughter to audition for “Grease” because she didn’t know “any of those people”. When her daugher landed a minor role in the play, Cassanova ended up spending a lot of time watching rehearsals, then every performance. When auditions for “Dark Of The Moon” was announced, she decided that she had to be on stage instead of watching. She landed a role and has never looked back, staying active in community theater productions ever since.
Cassanova has been a Shreveport resident since 1981 when her husband, Gene, retired from the Air Force. She and Major Cassanova (ret.) (sorry, Marcia, I had to do it) met when Marcias’ mother insisted on inviting the neighbor boy to Marcias’ 14th Birthday party. As they say, the rest is history, with 54 years of marriage behind them.
Long time Hemphill resident Betty Eddleman was instrumental in bringing Cassanova to the stage in Sabine County.
