Mr. Lavelle Woodroe Kilgore, age 88, of Hemphill, passed away on April 3, 2024. He was born on November 26, 1935, in Jonesboro, Louisiana, to Guy and Mabel Kilgore.

A hardworking individual, Mr. Kilgore enjoyed working and was known for his dedication and passion. He was a skilled mechanic who was respected in his field.

A veteran of honor, Lavelle served his country with distinction in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, defending American values during the conflicts in Korea and Vietnam.

Mr. Kilgore had a successful career as the owner/operator of Guam Automotive Clinic and as the owner of Chateau Shores on Toledo Bend Lake in Sabine County.

A member of the Church of Christ, Lavelle found strength and peace in his faith. His passions included the restoration of tractors, the crafting of hot rods, and imparting mechanical knowledge to his sons and to those who sought his wisdom. An enthusiast of firearms, he found joy in marksmanship.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn Kilgore of Hemphill; sons, Wayne Kilgore and wife, Sally, of Guam, Alan Kilgore and wife, Virginia, also of Guam; daughter, Jackie Riley and husband, Thomas, of Richmond, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Graveside military services will be at Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville, Louisiana. Date and time are pending.

Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, Texas, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
