CASA Vigil at Courthouse

Body
CASA and several volunteers from the Sabine County Child Welfare board held a vigil at the Courthouse on Thursday evening, April 25th in remembrance of the 173 children that have died from child abuse in Texas recently. No children died in Sabine County thankfully, but two in the East Texas region did, so there were two white balloons released in their honor.

Lady Tigers advance over Big Sandy

Body
The Lady Tigers made the short trek south to Jasper to kick off their playoffs against the Big Sandy Wildcats in the bi-district round April 25. It was a nip and tuck affair throughout as neither team would seize the game by the throat and make it theirs. Big Sandy would go up 7-5 in the top of the sixth, but West Sabine made it 7-6 entering the final frame setting up a dramatic finish. After knotting it up at seven apiece, Madison Williamson had the hit of a lifetime as she ripped the game winning single up the middle for the 8-7 win in game one. Katie Lindow picked up the win in the circle while also cracking her team leading fifth HR, a majestic blast over the left center field wall in the first inning.

Memories and Musings

Body
The spittoon has just about disappeared from the American scene. In the late 19th century United States, spittoons were a very common feature in pubs, brothels, saloons, hotels, stores, banks, court rooms, and other places where people gathered. I recall seeing spittoons scattered around in our Court House, and even in churches as a young lad.

Transcendent...

Sunday afternoons are for The Arts. Bethany Dorsey and Anna Peel graced the piano and violin at Pineywoods Vineyard on the square and the atmosphere in this little corner of creation was immaculate. Come sit a spell and enjoy.
